Summer Holidays Declared Early Due to Heat Wave : As temperatures soar across various parts of the country, authorities in several states have announced early summer vacations for schools, providing much-needed relief to students amidst scorching heat and heatwave conditions. Additionally, changes in school timings have been implemented to ensure the well-being of students and staff during the sweltering weather.
In states like Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Puducherry, governments and private schools have taken proactive measures to mitigate the effects of the intense heat on students and educators alike.
Summer Vacation in Puducherry: All government and private schools in Puducherry have been directed to remain closed from April 29 to June 5, with classes scheduled to resume on June 6. This decision, made by the School Education Department, aims to protect students from the rising temperatures, with forecasts predicting minimum temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius during this period.
School Timing Adjustments in Uttar Pradesh (UP): The Basic Education Department of Uttar Pradesh has altered school timings for the next few days to accommodate the heatwave conditions. From April 27 to 28, schools for classes one to eight will operate from 7:30 am to 11:30 am, and from April 29 onwards, the timings will be extended until 1 pm. The revised schedule, applicable to all boards, including madrasas, has been implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Changes in School Timings in Patna, Bihar: In the capital city of Bihar, Patna, adjustments have been made to school timings in response to the scorching heat. Classes for grades 1 to 9 will be conducted only until 10:30 am, after which a break will be observed until 4 pm. Meanwhile, classes for grades 11 and 12 will continue until 11:30 am. This decision, enforced by District Magistrate Kapil Ashok, prioritizes the health and comfort of students during the hottest hours of the day.
Summer Vacation Announcements in Other States: Several other states have also declared early summer vacations to combat the heatwave. Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh have initiated summer holidays from mid to late April, while government schools in Bihar began their break from April 15. Additionally, adjustments to school timings have been implemented in various districts of Jharkhand, Patna, and Uttar Pradesh.
